One of the oldest therapeutic treatments known, massage eases aching bones and protesting muscles as it deeply relaxes both the body and the spirit. The need for touch between people is an instinctual human need, fulfilled not only through our relationships with loved ones and friends, but through safe, gentle touch in a soothing, secure environment.

In developing a relationship with LifeDance, you will experience the best in Swedish and Deep Tissue massage technique as well as the additional benefits of quality hand and foot reflexology. The body's own healing powers are brought to assist all these modalities when Reiki healing is invoked either as a stand-alone session or as an addition to any of the other practices. Typically, LifeDance performs general massage, employing focus techniques for various areas of concern to the client. Reiki healing energy may be added at any time to enhance the massage and to bring deeper relaxation to the session. Before your first appointment, you will be asked to complete a short health history to better acquaint LifeDance with your current health and the concerns you may wish to address during your initial massage sessions.

Kathleen Gibbs

Born and raised in West Virginia, Kathleen has lived full-time in the Deep Creek Lake area since 1998, restoring a Victorian farmhouse. She has studied Massage Therapy and other complementary modalities since 1999 and is a nationally and Maryland certified therapeutic Massage Therapist. Most recently, she has attained Primary Level certification in Reiki Energy Healing (2005) and a certification in Lymphatic Drainage Massage (2006). Kathleen holds a bachelor's and master's degree in Biology and Environmental Science. Convenient to Deep Creek Lake, her studio is located in the peaceful woodlands near Deer Park, MD

The Art of Reiki Healing

An ancient Japanese healing modality brought to the West in the 1930s, Reiki Healing marshals the energies and strengths of your own body to heal illness and promote wellness by stimulating the body’s own healing response.

This light touch, meditative therapy may stand alone or be combined with any other Healing or Massage technique. Alone, a full Reiki Healing session lasts about 40 minutes and is done with the client fully clothed and lying comfortably on a massage or therapy table. Soothing music or sound helps the client relax and feel the sensations of warmth or tingling that may accompany the Reiki process. A full-body healing may be done or particular focus areas may be determined between the client and the Reiki Healer before the session begins.

Reiki Healing is often combined with Massage Therapy to enhance the therapeutic effects of the massage and to help address problem areas in the therapeutic process.

In particular cases, the changes stimulated through Reiki Healing may be noticed in subtle and not-so-subtle ways within a day or so of the session. Increased relaxation may be expected as well a calming influence on the mind.

The Modalities

Swedish Massage: This is the type of massage most people see depicted on television or in the movies. It's long, vigorous strokes punctuated by tapping and rolling can be very relaxing and are excellent for general muscle aches and pains, relaxation and sports stiffness.

Deep Tissue Massage: Deep Tissue is, as it's name implies, a deeper form of massage usually used for focus work on particular areas of the body. It is more contemplative in nature and can have powerful results with chronic pain, arthritis or deep muscle issues.

Reflexology: This is an ancient form of extremity massage which can bring relief and balance to tired muscles and glands through referred massage of the feet and hands. It is particularly soothing to those who have chronic conditions such as Chronic Pain Syndrome, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Plantar Fasciaitis, Fibromyalgia and other chronic conditions, leg and foot discomfort.
